Heinz Reclaims Javelin

Heinz Reclaims School-Record LONG BEACH, CA-- Kim Heinz reclaimed her school-record in the javelin, Robert Jennings picked a win in the hammer and the women's relay teams won five of six races in the team's first outdoor event of the season at the 65th Annual Jack Rose Relays on Saturday. Heinz, the former record holder prior to Sam Young's throw last year (158'10"), won the javelin with a toss of 159'9", while Robert Jennings took home an individual titles in the hammer (172'7"). Jennings also finished second to former 49er and school-record holder Jon O'Neil in the discus with a throw of 170'0". O'Neil, now competing for the Beach Track Club won it with a toss of 182'5". "It was a great way to honor Jack Rose, having great universities like USC joining in the event today," said Head Coach Andy Sythe. "I'd like to think that Jack was smiling down on us today." The women's relay teams produced wins in the 4x100, 4x200, 4x1600 spring medley and distance medley. Also winning for The Beach was Emily Forsythe in the high jump (5'5") Tyler McCoy in the javelin (190'4") and Katelyn Ciarelli in the discus (136'10"). The 49ers are next in action next weekend when they travel to the Ben Brown Invitational. |
