Bruins Sweep Past 49ers Duncan Budinger Leads Way With 20 Kills

LOS ANGELES, CA-- UCLA hit .424 for the evening as the No. 8-ranked Bruins swept past No. 6 Long Beach State 30-21, 30-28, 30-28 on Friday evening at the Wooden Center. The Bruins improve to 15-12 overall and 7-10 in the MPSF while Long Beach falls to 17-8 and 10-7 in league action.
Steve Klosterman led the way for UCLA with 14 kills while Paul George added 13 and Nick Scheftic 11. The Bruins hit .424 (51-12-92) for the evening. George hit .476 (13-3-21) for the evening.
Duncan Budinger led Long Beach State with 20 kills and hit .412 (20-6-34) while Robert Tarr added 12 kills. That duo had 32 of the teams 42 total kills on the evening as only three other 49ers registered kills (Paul Lotman 5, Teddy Liles 3, Kevin Cape 2). Long Beach hit .301 (42-17-83) in the match. Long Beach did out-block the Bruins 9.0 to 7.5 as Liles led the way with five blocks and Tyler Hildebrand added four. Tyler Caldwell led the defensive effort with seven digs.
The 49ers will be in action on Saturday, April 1 when they play at No. 1-ranked UC Irvine at 7 pm at Crawford Hall.
