49ers Travel To Western Intercollegiate

LONG BEACH, CA-- The Long Beach State men's golf team travels up to Northern California next Monday and Tuesday (March 27-28) for the 60th Western Intercollegiate hosted by San Jose State at the Pasatiempo Golf Club in Santa Cruz.

In the latest Golfstat poll, the 49ers are ranked 67th, placing The Beach second among other Big West Conference members. In Golfweek, the 49ers are ranked 81st.

In its last outing, the 49ers tied for fifth place with UC Berkeley at the Callaway Golf Invitational in Rancho Santa Fe, Calif. with a score of 900 (303-296-301). Junior Ryan Wood finished in fifth place with a a score of 220 (75-70-75) and junior Brett Lederer finished in eighth with a score of 222 (73-72-77).

"Overall, San Diego's event was fine," said Head Coach Bob Livingstone. "While we would have like to have been a shot or two better, our only significant loss was to the host school and we are still ranked ahead of them."

Last year at Pasatiempo, junior Jeremy Keller finished in fourth place and Lederer finished in second in 2004.

"We are really looking forward to the Western Intercollegiate, as Pasatiempo is one of our favorite courses and one on which we have had great success over the years," said Livingstone. "It is ‘home stretch time' and I like how we are playing and improving as a group."

The 49ers finish the 2005-06 regular season at the U.S. Intercollegiate in Palo Alto, Calif. on April 15-16. The 2006 Big West Conference Championship will be held on April 24-25 at Tijeras Creek Golf Course.
