49ers Feature 13 Marks that Lead the Big West
IRVINE, CA-- Making a statement early on during the conference season, Long Beach State Track and Field has 13 marks that lead the Big West and a total of 29 marks ranked in the top-three in the conference. If those marks were to hold all season, it would challenge the school-record for most all-conference athletes (top-three) ever at a single conference meet, held in the 1990's. The throws program alone carries six of the top marks in the conference, led by David Sampson (Cypress) and Kristina Price (Snelling) in the shot put; and Ed Cornell (Ridgecrest) and Katelyn Ciarelli (Huntington Beach) in the discus. Ciarelli also has the top mark in the hammer, while Kim Heinz' school-record mark in the javelin is also the conference's top standard. The women's javelin has all three of the top marks in the league, as Heinz is followed by Jaime Cuthbert-Allen (Whittier) and Ciarelli. The sprints program carries another four top marks in Austin Fowler (100m), Admond Goodin (110m hurdles), Jasmine Winfield (200m) and the 4x100 women's relay team. Rounding out the list is Danielle Miller in the steeple chase and John Temidara in the triple jump. Regionally, the 49ers have posted eight regional standards with John Temidara (Santa Fe Springs) posting nationally ranked marks in the high and triple jumps; and Robert Jennings (Campbell) have regional qualifiers in the discus and hammer. Chris Richardson (long jump), Ronald Carter (triple jump), Sampson and Heinz are also regional qualifiers. So far this season, LBSU has a total of 50 conference qualifiers. The 49ers have also put eight marks on various outdoor top-10 lists in the school's media guide. The 49ers travel to the USC Invitational on Friday and Saturday.
