LBSU Sweeps UCLA Budinger Records Career-High 24 Kills

LONG BEACH, CA – Led by Duncan Budinger's career-high 24 kills, the Long Beach State men's volleyball team snapped its three-match losing streak with a 3-0 win over UCLA on Saturday night. Game scores were 30-23, 32-30, 30-21.
The 49ers improved to 12-5, 7-4 MPSF, while UCLA fell to 10-7, 5-5 MPSF.
Robert Tarr added 15 kills for the 49ers, which hit a crisp .424 (55-13-99) for the match. Tyler Hildebrand registered 45 assists and two blocks. Paul Lotman added a match-high 10 digs.
Paul George paced UCLA with 13 kills in the losing effort. The Bruins connected for a .320 attack percentage (47-15-100).
Long Beach State pulled away early from the Bruins in the first stanza and built a 26-20 lead after a Teddy Liles kill. LBSU put away UCLA, 30-23 after a Budinger kill. The 49ers hit .500 in the first frame as well.
The 49ers seized the early momentum in the second game and held a 17-13 lead after a Tarr kill, before the Bruins rallied late to take a 30-29 lead after a George service ace. LBSU answered to take a 31-30 after two consecutive Tarr kills, and completed the 32-30 game two win on a block.
LBSU cruised in the third set and held a 27-18 lead late before closing out the Bruins, 30-21.
The Beach embarks on a four-match road trip beginning at UC Santa Barbara on Wednesday, Mar. 1.
