49ers Rally For Victory At UCSB Tarr and Lotman record 18 kills each

SANTA BARBARA, CA-- Robert Tarr and Paul Lotman both tallied 18 kills to help lead the Long Beach State men's volleyball team to a 23-30, 26-30, 30-19, 30-27, 15-12 win at UC Santa Barbara on Wednesday evening. Long Beach, ranked No. 5 in the country, improves to 13-5 overall anad 8-4 in the MPSF while UCSB falls to 9-9 and 6-7 in league play.
The 49ers hit .408 (72-19-130) on the evening and rallied from two games down to earn the victory. The 18 kills by Lotman represented a career-high for him, while Tarr's 18 kills give him 1,315 career kills, moving him into the No. 7 spot in 49er history.
After hitting a lowly .212 (14-7-33) in game two to fall behind two games to none, the 49er offense got in gear. Long Beach hit .308 in game three and .452 (19-5-31) in game number four. Setter Tyler Hildebrand dished out 55 assists on the evening and recorded a career-high tying five kills and added six blocks. Middle blocker Teddy Liles added 13 kills and a team-high nine blocks. The 49ers were able to out-block the Gauchos 20.0 to 5.5. In game four the 49ers hit .353 (8-2-17).
UCSB had five players tally double digits in kills led by Evan Patak's 24 and 15 by Bryan Berman. Patak also added five service aces.
The 49ers are next in action on Friday, March 3 when they play at Cal State Northridge at 7 pm. |
