49ers Fall at LMU
LOS ANGELES, CA – The LMU women's basketball team handed Long Beach State a fifth straight loss after a 61-38 win in the Gersten Pavilion on Tuesday night. The 49ers fell to 0-5, and won't return to action until a Dec. 1 road trip to Utah. LMU improved to 2-2. Karina Figueroa led Long Beach State with 13 points and eight assists. Kaiti O'Brien chipped in with eight points. Tyresha Calhoun had six rebounds as well. Jennifer Hall led LMU with a double-double (17 points and 13 rebounds). Long Beach State's offensive struggles opened the door for LMU to build a 47-33 lead after consecutive baskets by Browyn Evans at the 10:53 mark in the second half. The Lions led by as many as 18 points and held a sizeable lead the rest of the way for the home victory. The 49ers only scored nine points in the second half. LMU built a 10 point lead midway through the first half after an Amanda Patton free throw, before Ally Wade keyed a late run by The Beach with two consecutive three-pointers with 3:11 remaining in the half to trim the deficit to 28-25. The Lions pushed their lead back up to five, 30-25 after two Lisa Helmers free throws, before a layup by Lauren Sims with 11 seconds cut the lead to 32-29 at halftime. Figueroa paced LB with 11 first half points and dished out seven assists (no turnovers).
