49ers Tie Record for Wins, Shutouts in Win
LONG BEACH, CA-- No. 23-ranked Long Beach State (12-2-1) returned to the top-25 in resounding fashion, posting a 4-0 win over previously-ranked Fresno State (7-5-1) paced by two goals and an assist from Kim Silos and four points from Hayley Bolt. The win tied the school-record for shutouts (11) and victories (12), both set last season. The Beach, who were ranked No. 23 by Soccer America this week after a two week absence, played toe-to-toe with the Bulldogs over the first half hour, before Bolt put The Beach on the board at 28:32 off a corner kick from Silos. Silos returned the favor 53 seconds later catching a pass from Bolt from 35 yards out and connecting on a laser which froze goalkeeper Angie Larsen. LBSU went into the half 2-0, before Sarah Strohl strung a pass in traffic to Sahar Haghan at midfield, who then beat two defenders and scored at 65:21 to give LBSU a 3-0 lead. Silos finished off the scoring in the 68th minute as Bolt passed it again, and Silos scored from 20 yards out to make it 4-0. The Beach are now off for the next 10 days, next playing at UC Davis on October 20. |
