What's Hot... 1. The 49ers at Home Long Beach State is 19-3 over its last 22 home games dating back to Nov. 24, 2004. Also in that span, LBSU has knocked off two ranked opponents (Houston, Dec. 20, 2004, 54-52 and USC, Nov. 23, 2005, 51-46). The 49ers are 8-1 at home this season.

5. Karina Figueroa The freshman guard has posted four straight double digit scoring efforts, and is averaging 14.5 points per game in league play. Figueroa has also compiled 15 assists and seven steals in conference play this season.
Quickly: The Long Beach State women's basketball team (11-5, 4-0) looks to remain perfect in conference play when it hosts CS Fullerton (5-10, 3-2) on Thursday, Jan. 19 and UC Riverside (4-10, 1-4) on Saturday, Jan. 21 from the Walter Pyramid. LBSU leads the all-time series over CSUF, 58-28, dating back to the 1965 season. In fact the 49ers have won 13 of the last 14 meetings vs. the Titans since 1999. The Beach is 7-3 all-time vs. UCR dating back to the 1972 season. LBSU has won six of its last seven meetings with the Highlanders, and won both games last season by a combined score of 150-90.
Last Week's Tidbits: The 102 points scored at CS Northridge on Jan. 15 was a league-high, and the first time LBSU reached the century mark since its 106-58 win over St. Francis (NY) on Dec. 27, 2001. Long Beach State is 64-0 all-time when scoring 100 points...Crystal McCutcheon took sole possession of third place in program history with her 96th three-point field goal made at CSUN on Jan. 15...McCutcheon needs seven three-pointers to tie Lauren Bull for No. 2 all-time...The Beach scored 55 points in the second half at CSUN on Jan. 15, the most in a half this season. LBSU also netted a conference and season-high 63 percent field goal percentage at CSUN.
Last Two Games in Review: (LBSU 102, CS Northridge, 62 • Jan. 15, 2006) Led by Crystal McCutcheon's 22 points, the Long Beach State women's basketball team won its fourth straight conference game after a 102-62 victory over CS Northridge on Sunday afternoon from The Matadome. The 49ers (11-5, 4-0 Big West) have won seven of their last eight games. The last time Long Beach State reached the century mark was back on Dec. 27, 2001 when it defeated St. Francis (NY), 106-58. Jeannie Saunders added a career-high 18 points, Mary Has had a career-high 14 points, Fernanda Santos registered a double-double (15 points, 13 rebounds), and Karina Figueroa notched 13 points. Heather Cushing led CSUN (5-11, 2-3 Big West) with 12 points in the losing effort. The 49ers opened the second half with three straight uncontested layups, two courtesy of Saunders, and never allowed CS Northridge in the game the rest of the way. Long Beach State led by as many as 42 points, and shot over 65 percent in the frame. LBSU opened the game with an 8-2 lead after a McCutcheon jumper and eventually held a 15-4 lead after a Saunders three-pointer at the 13:45 mark. CSUN pulled to within four points of the lead, 20-16, after a Krisztina Fuleki jumper with 8:59 left in the half. However, Long Beach State quickly pushed its lead back to double-digits (11) after a Figueroa three-pointer at the 6:39 mark. The 49ers scored twice with under a minute in the half to hold a 15-point lead at the break. Saunders had 12 points in the stanza, while as a team, The Beach converted nine CSUN turnovers into 16 points. LBSU shot 55 percent from the field and 6-of-9 from three-point range.
(LBSU 74, Pacific 61 • Jan. 13, 2006) The Long Beach State women's basketball team earned its second road win of the season after a 74-61 win over the Pacific Tigers on Friday night from the Spanos Center. Freshman Karina Figueroa led The Beach (10-5, 3-0 Big West) with 14 points, four assists, and no turnovers, while Fernanda Santos added 11 points and seven rebounds. Crystal McCutcheon chipped in with 10 points. McCutcheon also added a three-pointer to tie Adara Newidouski for third all-time in program history with 93 career three-point field goals made. Jayme Connors pulled down a game-high 11 rebounds. Connors ranks No. 1 in the Big West and No. 13 in the nation in rebounds per game (10.7). Kelsey Lavender led four Tigers in double-figures with a game-high 20 points in the losing effort. Both Long Beach State and Pacific (4-11, 1-3 Big West) shot 41 percent from the field. A strong second half allowed LBSU to own double-digit leads of 14, 16, and 18. Pacific only made it to the free throw line three times in the second period, while the 49ers converted 9-of-10 from the charity stripe in the second half. The 49ers jumped out to a 7-2 lead on the Tigers in the first half after a McCutcheon three-pointer. Pacific responded with an 8-4 run to trim the LBSU lead to 11-10 after a Lavender three-pointer at the 15:27 mark. Back-to-back layups by Santos gave The Beach its biggest lead of the half at nine, 21-12, with 10:50 left in the period. Pacific took the lead temporarily at 29-27, after back-to-back three-pointers by Lavender and Renee Roberts with 2:42 left in the half. A Meghan Griffith converted three-point play and a late free throw by Figueroa gave Long Beach State the three-point lead at the half. The 49ers shot just 35 percent from the field, while holding the Tigers to just a 38 percent clip.

49ers Ink Six for the 2006-07 Season: Long Beach State women's basketball head coach, Mary Hegarty, announced that six players, Lauren Bagley, Sherissa Bayes, Lindsey Beckner, Nondi Johnson, Lauren Sims, and Ally Wade have all signed National Letters-of-Intent to enroll at Long Beach State for the 2006-07 season. "It's a very talented and deep recruiting class," said Hegarty. "We addressed all of our needs at the post position with four new post players. This class has a strong work ethic and strong academic backgrounds. They will fit nicely with the players we have returning next season. This class will help take our program to the next level."
Wade Top-5 in the OC: Long Beach State incoming recruit, Ally Wade, was selected as one of the OC Register's Top-5 Players to watch this season. Wade made first team All-County and All-CIF after averaging 18.3 points, 5.8 rebounds and 2.8 assists and leading her team (El Dorado) to the Division II-AA semifinals. The OC Register also listed 49er incoming recruit, Lauren Bagley (Foothill), as another player on its watch list.
Big West Pre-Season Predictions are Out: The Big West Conference had its annual media day on Nov. 2 and the Long Beach State women's basketball team was picked to finish second by both the conference's eight coaches and the media. Senior Crystal McCutcheon also made the pre-season all-conference team. In the media poll, the women compiled 67 points, with one first place vote behind UCSB's 79 points and nine first place votes. In the coaches poll, the women received two first place votes and 43 overall points to UCSB's 46.
Four Double-Headers this Season: The 49er women will play four doubleheaders with the men's team this season. The first was on December 30 as the women defeated South Dakota State and the men defeated Cornell. On January 28 both teams will tangle with UC Irvine in The Walter Pyramid (2 & 5 pm). February 11 will be Homecoming on the 49er campus and the women will take on Pacific (3 pm) while the men tangle with UCSB (5:30 pm). The final doubleheader will be on March 4 at UC Irvine (4 & 7 pm).
The Beach on TV: When Long Beach State tangles with UC Santa Barbara on February 18 in Santa Barbara, the game will be aired on Fox Sports West 2 at 5:00 p.m.
The 05-06 Schedule: Five of Long Beach State's non-conference opponents advanced to the NCAA post-season last season, including TCU, Houston, USC, Montana, and Richmond. Conference rival, UC Santa Barbara also advanced to the NCAA post-season as well.
