BOX SCORE

LONG BEACH, CA-- For the second time in five games freshman Kim Silos (Ontario) scored the game-winner in overtime, this time waiting for the second 10-minute extra frame to give Long Beach State (7-1-1) a 1-0 double overtime win over visiting San Diego State (6-5-0).

Silos, who scored the game-winner at Fresno State on Wednesday night, took a cross from Hayley Bolt (Lakewood) from the right side and beat Alexis Solovij to the net for the game-winner at 104:23. LBSU, who outshot San Diego State 14-to-4 over the final 65 minutes, shut down an Aztec team which had previously beaten four Big West opponents this season. For the match, The Beach outshot San Diego State 16-to-9.

After the Aztecs opened up the game with three shots over the first six minutes of play, LBSU settled down and went on the attack, as it was only a matter of time before the 49ers would find the back of the net.

Aztec goalie Cat Burson was put to work after halftime, making all five of her saves, as she saved a Dana Farquhar (Redlands) header in the 79th minute, before she watched one of Bolt's seven shots sail high in the 83rd minute. LBSU had a chance to win it in regulation, but a Silos shot was saved by defender Amanda Swiader with seconds remaining on the clock.

The 49ers then pounded the Aztecs in overtime, outfiring 7-to-0, with three shots coming with two minutes remaining in the first overtime, as Burson's fingertips saved a Silos shot in the 96th minute, before another Bolt header went high in the 98th frame. Another shot 30 seconds later also went high.

SDSU had two chances in the second half to break the tie, but a save in the 49th and a missed shot by Jen Mello in the 73rd both kept it scoreless.

For the 49ers it was their sixth shutout of the season, one away from last year's record pace, while the seven wins surpassed last season's total with the start of conference right around the corner.

LBSU remains unbeaten over their last eight games, as they play three more times over the next seven days, at USC on Tuesday at 3 p.m., at Pacific on Friday at 7 p.m. and at CS Northridge next Sunday at 1 p.m.
