Farqhar Finds Silos in Overtime, 1-0
FRESNO, CA-- Dana Farquhar (Redlands) found fellow freshman Kim Silos (Ontario) in front of a wide open net in the 97th minute as Long Beach State (6-1-1) remained unbeaten over its last seven games with a 1-0 overtime victory over Fresno State In the 95th minute, Hayley Bolt (Lakewood) set up a pass from midfield, but it was just out of reach of Silos, who was all over the field most of the night. The game remained scoreless deep into the second half, as an offsides call erased a Silos goal in the 66th minute as a cross from Sahar Haghdan (Palmdale) to Dana Farquhar (Redlands) set up the play. Both teams would then go into the overtime frame notted at zeroe. A new offensive intensity began the second 45 minutes of play as three minutes into the half a laser of a shot by Silos just missed going in from 30 yards out. In the 57th minute, Silos tried again as this time goalie Angie Larsen caught the shot point blank from 20 yards out. Silos tried to the right eight minutes later. In a sluggish first half, the first shot did not come until the 21st minute, by Fresno State, as the 49ers first shot came in the 36th minute, as a Sahar Haghdan (Palmdale) deflection led to Dana Farquhar (Redlands), who fired high over the goal. The half ended in a scoreless tie with Fresno producing three shots, and LBSU just one. The 49ers return home on Sunday when they host San Diego State at 1 p.m., before traveling to USC on September 27. |
