49ers Tie UNLV 1-1 on Los Alamitos Connection
LAS VEGAS, NV-- Prep teammates Julie Megorden and Hayley Bolt connected for the second time this season, tying the game in the 61st minute, keeping Long Beach State (5-0-1) unbeaten over its last six games, with a 1-1 double overtime tie with host UNLV (3-2-3). The two Los Alamitos High products connected at 60:04, as Megorden's perfectly placed corner kick to Bolt tied the game, after UNLV went ahead in the 28th minute. The 49ers had a chance in the first overtime, but a Bolt shot rolled left, leading to an unsuccessful corner kick in the 97th minute. In the second frame, following a Sahar Haghdan foul, two shots by Kim Silos (Ontario) went awry, keeping the game tied. LBSU outshot UNLV 15-to-6 for the game, including 11-to-3 over the final 65 minutes of play. Megorden had entered the game just two minutes prior to the tying goal, as LBSU outshot the Rebels 5-to-2 in the second half, targeting three on goal. The Rebels got on the board in the 28th minute as Tanya Roberts took a pass from Armani Rice deep in the box from the right side to make it 1-0. It was the first goal against 49er goalie Liz Ramos (Bakersfield) since the season opener, a span of 474:39. The Beach had a chance to tie it in the 56th minute as Kelli Goes (Manteca) sent it ahead to Bolt, but UNLV goalie Ciera Nero just got a piece of it to keep UNLV in front. In the 10th minute the 49ers had a chance to break a scoreless tie, as Jenna Duncan (Long Beach/LBCC) making her first career start, stole a ball at midfield and passed it ahead to Haghdan (Palmdale). Haghdan, with a few moves of her own, produced an open net against Nero, but a Rebel defender was there to keep it scoreless. The 49ers close out their three-game roadtrip at Fresno State (3-5-0) on Wednesday at 7 p.m. The Bulldogs won both games of the UNLV Classic, 1-0 over UNLV and 3-2 in overtime over Sam Houston State. |
