Rodriguez Wins Mexican Javelin Championships

Former 49er, Rodriguez, Wins Mexican Javelin CHIHUAHUA, MEXICO-- Former Long Beach State javelin thrower Frank Rodriguez recently won Mexico's National Javelin Championship and is now eligible to compete in the world championships in Helsinki, Finland later this summer. A 2003 NCAA regional qualifer, Rodriguez' throw of 211'5.5", placed first back on June 24. Rodriguez' rise as a championship javelin thrower has been quick and successful, as he competed for the first time in the event in 2002, after being a pitcher in high school. That season Rodriguez broke the six-year old school-record in the javelin, at 214'2", and then reached the NCAA Regionals the next season. He was a two-time All-Big West performer at The Beach. Doug Lefler broke the 49er record in the javelin in 2004, as Rodriguez' mark now ranks second all-time. |
