Keohohou, Cervenka Garner League Honors LBSU Wraps Up Conference Play at UCR
May 9, 2005 IRVINE, CA – Senior Oli Keohohou of the Long Beach State softball team was named as the Big West Conference Player of the Week, while senior teammate Meredith Cervenka was selected as the Co-Pitcher of the Week, as announced by the league office on Monday. This was Cervenka's third Pitcher of the Week honor this season.
Keohohou (Newbury Park) posted a .500 batting average with two home runs, three RBI, and five runs scored in Long Beach State's three-game series sweep of UC Santa Barbara last weekend. Keohohou was the key spark in the 2-1 win over the Gauchos on Sunday when her solo home run in the fourth inning tied the game at 1-1, and her RBI single in the bottom of the ninth with the bases loaded provided the game-winning run and the 2-1 LBSU victory. The victory also gave Long Beach State the outright Big West Conference title. In just 18 games played Keohohou has hit for a .368 average this season with four home runs.
Cervenka (La Crescenta) went 2-0 with a 0.44 ERA and 13 strikeouts in 16 innings of work vs. the Gauchos. Cervenka allowed one run (unearned) on five hits with seven strikeouts in the 2-1 nine inning win on Sunday. The two wins gave Cervenka 22 on the season and an overall 1.41 ERA. Both her wins total and ERA rank No. 1 in the conference. Cervenka has won 10 Big West Pitcher of the Week honors since 2003.
Long Beach State (36-14, 16-2 Big West) is ranked No. 24 in the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Top-25 poll, and will travel to UC Riverside for a three-game conference series, May 13-14.
