FULLERTON, CA-- Danny Dorn drove in four runs as top-ranked CS Fullerton (40-13, 15-3 Big West) clinched its second-straight Big West title with a 8-0 win over No. 10-ranked Long Beach State (36-19, 14-7 Big West) on a very warm Sunday afternoon.

A two-run homer by Dorn in the sixth made it 6-0, as an out later, LBSU starter Jared. Hughes (8-3) exited after giving up six runs on six hits over five and two-thirds innings. Hughes had gone 7-0 over his last eight starts. Two homers in the seventh made it 10-0.

Scott Sarver (9-2) meanwhile worked out of early trouble to going seven strong shutout innings, giving up just four hits.

Fullerton took full advantage of 49ers' miscues in its two series wins, as today leftfielder Scott Bradley had trouble with back to back triples to left, giving CSF a 3-0 advantage to leadoff the fifth inning en route to a 4-0 lead.

Hughes had cruised through the first three innings, pitching to the minimum through three on just 31 pitches. In the fourth, a two-strike, two-out single up the middle by Dorn plated two and made it 2-0. An inch to the left and a grounder down the first base line would have resulted in the third out, but instead the foul ball gave Dorn another chance. A one-out infield hit and a hit by pitch set up the inning.

The 3,247 fans today gave the series total to 10,355, a Goodwin Field record.

The Dirtbags close out the regular season on Wednesday, May 25 at USC at 7 p.m. The final Mike Weathers Show, a day earlier on Tuesday, will feature pitcher Andrew Liebel and sports psychologist Ken Ravizza. The 16 site announcements will be next Sunday, as the full 64-team bracket will be announced on Memorial Day at 8:30 a.m.
