Ramos One of 10 Finalists for Clemens Award HOUSTON, TX-- Long Beach State lefthander Cesar Ramos (Pico Rivera) was one of 10 finalists for the second annual Roger Clemens Award, given to the nation's top collegiate pitcher. Last year's award recipient was 49er ace Jered Weaver. Ramos enters his start on Friday against top-ranked CS Fullerton seventh nationally in wins, at 10-5, and 25th overall in ERA at 2.02. Ramos has outdueled two of the pitchers on the list this season, Wichita State's Mike Pelfrey and Fullerton's Ricky Romero. The 10 pitchers also include: Tulane lefthander Brian Bogusevic, Oregon State righthander Dallas Buck, Miami righthander Cesar Carillo, righthander Lance Broadway of TCU, righthander Luke Hochevar of Tennessee (and brother of former 49er volleyball All-American Brittany), USC righthander Ian Kennedy and Missouri righthander Max Scherzer. Ramos, who is also on the watch lists for the Golden Spikes Award, will find out if he is one of those five on May 25. |
