Tulowitzki Named Hitter of the Week IRVINE, CA-- Long Beach State shortstop Troy Tulowitzki (Sunnyvale) is back. After missing six weeks of the season because of a hamate bone injury in his left hand, the pre-season All-American was named the Big West's Hitter of the Week following a .571 week for the Dirtbags.LBSU (26-12, 8-1 Big West), currently tied for first in the conference, are coming off a sweep of CS Northridge this past weekend. Tulowitzki currently leads the club with a .386 average and .614 slugging percentage. Tulowitzki returned a week early from the injury and helped The Beach topple then-No. 1-ranked CS Fullerton and have rolled ever since, winning 11 of 14. No surprise, since Tulowitzki's return on March 24, the team has slowly crept up the national rankings, achieving its highest ranking this week, at No. 9 in Collegiate Baseball. Tulowitzki's average has done the same, after getting just one hit in his first 12 at-bats in the Fullerton series, the junior who is a projected as a first round pick in the June drafts, has hit safely in 10 of his last 11 games. Tulowitzki began the year going 10-for-19, before a foul ball put him on the disabled list for 20 games. The Beach began in a four-game road trip this week, when they travel to Loyola Marymount (15-20) on Tuesday at 3 p.m. at Pacific this weekend. |
