49ers Strong in First Outdoor Event

49ers Achieve Seven NCAA Regional Marks LONG BEACH, CA-- Long Beach State track and field achieved seven NCAA Regional qualifying marks in the first outdoor event of the season at the Long Beach Relays on Saturday afternoon. Kim Heinz broke the school-record in the javelin, set last year by NCAA participant Ami Goldhammer, winning the event with a toss of 157'7". The 4x100-meter women's relay team fell just short of the school-record by .19 seconds in their first time running together. "All of our event groups did well today," said Director of Track and Field Andy Sythe. "We were able to challenge USC, among others and our groups all did an outstanding job. The men and women swept the throwing events, we had a strong performances from the sprints groups and our distance programs showed its depth after we held a few runners out." LBSU had NCAA Regional qualifying marks out of three high jumpers, Dan Trautner, Hagen Hagos and Emily Forsythe, Steve Holland in the hammer and Heinz in the javelin.
