49ers Finish Third At Kent Youel
Hoey And Wilkinson Both Finish In Top Five

HONOLULU, HI-- Behind the stellar play of sophomore Kay Hoey and senior Hayley Wilkinson, the Long Beach State women's golf team finished in third place at the Kent Youel Invitational in Honolulu, HI. The 49ers shot a 303 in Wednesday's third round to finish with a three-round score of 907. The 28th-ranked 49ers finished behind tournament champion USC (896) and second place Stanford (902). USC is ranked No. 8 in the nation this week, while Stanford is ranked No. 25.

Individually, Hoey shot a one-over 73 in the final round to tie for third place overall with a seven-over 223 (76-74-73). Wilkinson tied for fifth place overall with an impressive 224 (73-74-77). Tying for 12th place was Katy Barrett, who shot a 228 (77-72-74). Stanford's Kelly Husted won the individual title with a four-under 212 (69-72-71). Hoey, who is ranked No. 45 in the country, tied for third with No. 31-ranked Sofie Andersson of Cal and finished ahead of No. 32-ranked Dewi Schreefel of USC. Wilkinson headed intot he tournament ranked No. 150 nationally, but will surely move up in next week's individual GolfWeek rankings.

This was the final fall tournament for the 49ers. They will next be in action on February 27-28 when they compete at the Fresno State Invitational.
