49ers Announce Six Signees All Six Hail From California November 11, 2005
LONG BEACH, CA – Long Beach State women's basketball head coach, Mary Hegarty, announced that six players, Lauren Bagley, Sherissa Bayes, Lindsey Beckner, Nondi Johnson, Lauren Sims, and Ally Wade have all signed National Letters-of-Intent to enroll at Long Beach State for the 2006-07 season.
"It's a very talented and deep recruiting class," said Hegarty. "We addressed all of our needs at the post position with four new post players. This class has a strong work ethic and strong academic backgrounds. They will fit nicely with the players we have returning next season. This class will help take our program to the next level."
Bagley (Tustin) is a 6-2 post player from Foothill High School who is averaging 13 points and nine rebounds per game this season. Bagley has also earned first-team All-Sea View League honors.
Bayes (Los Angeles) will transfer to The Beach via Taft Junior College. The 6-2 Bayes averaged 16 points, 11 rebounds, and three blocks per game last season for Taft Junior College.
Beckner (San Diego) is a 6-3 post player from Hilltop High School averaged 13 points and nine rebounds per game last season. Beckner has been a South Bay League all-conference performer during her high school tenure.
Johnson (Palm Springs) led Cathedral City High School in points per game (17) and rebounds per game (13) last season. The 6-0 forward has been a first-team All-Desert League selection, and her father, David Johnson, played on the Long Beach State men's basketball team from 1981-82.
Sims (Fullerton) is considered one of the best three-point shooters in the country and was listed as the 73rd best recruit for the 2006 class by Blue Star Basketball. The 5-9 guard from Troy High School has led her team to two consecutive state championship appearances, including the 2003 championship team. Sims, who was an all-county selection this season, averaged 15 points and four assists per game last season.
Wade (Yorba Linda) helped lead El Dorado High School to the CIF-SS Division II-AA semi-finals, and averaged 18 points and six rebounds per game last season. The 5-11 forward was a first-team All-Century League selection in 2004 and 2005, and first-team All-Orange County selection in 2005. |
