Beach Watches Fullerton Win Big West Title
LONG BEACH, CA-- Kellie Cox scored two goals as No. 21-ranked CS Fullerton (15-3-0, became the second Big West school to establish a school-record for wins, winning the Big West title in the process by defeating Long Beach State (12-5-2, 3-3-1 Big West) 3-0 in the regular season finale. The conference, which featured three ranked teams during the season, including the 49ers, had two wins separate the top six teams in the Big West. The 49ers finished the regular season with a record-tying 12 wins and will be the third seed in next week's Big West Conference Tournament in Fullerton starting on Friday, against second-seeded UC Riverside at 5 p.m. The Titans will face Pacific at aproximately 7:30 p.m. The winners will face off on Sunday at 1 p.m. for the automatic berth into the NCAA Tournament. Tickets can be purchased through the Titan Box Office at (714) 278-2677. The Titans went up 1-0 in the fifth minute when Cox scored on her own rebounded shot, before taking a 2-0 lead in the 36th minute off a Welch header. Cox then drove up the right side in the 83rd minute and scored from 25 yards out to make it 3-0. Goalie Liz Ramos, who gave up a career-high three goals on the day, made eight saves in the net, as the Titans outshot the 49ers 20-to-6 on the day.
