| 49ers Fall 1-0 in Northridge
NORTHRIDGE, CA-- Playing without two starters, Long Beach State (8-3-1, 1-1-1 Big West) held serve with CS Northridge (10-1-0, 0-1-0 Big West), but the Matadors were able to push through in the 58th minute to remain unbeaten over its last nine matches. It ended a tough week for the 49ers, which included three road matches and a tough seven-match stretch in which the team went 4-2-1, playing in Vegas, Long Beach, Stockton, Los Angeles, Stockton and the San Fernando Valley. LBSU nearly had an answer for Kristy Krohn's drive and score from 10 yards out at 57:38, as Kim Silos (Ontario) on the ensuing possession had her shot deflected out by CSUN defender Julie Hauserman. After Northridge took the first five shots of the half, which included two point blank saves by 49er goalie Liz Ramos in the ninth and 20th minutes, LBSU tallied four shots over the final 18 minutes and outshot the Matadors 10-to-7 over the final 53 minutes. LBSU ended up equaling CSUN's shots in the second half, with six, being outshot 12-to-10 for the contest. The 49ers had to shuffle their starting linep as midfielder Hayley Bolt (wrist) remains day-to-day after leaving Friday's game and Natalie Messina, who was bothered by a right leg. The 49ers return home to begin a four-match homestand on Friday when they host nationally-ranked Cal Poly. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
