No. 25 Long Beach State Cruises to 2-0 Win
LONG BEACH, CA-- Kim Silos (Ontario) scored both goals as No. 25-ranked Long Beach State (11-3-1) emptied its bench in the second half, cruising to a 2-0 victory over visiting Idaho (2-14-0). The loss, Idaho's 12th straight, ties a school-record, while the 49ers, ranked for the first time in school-history established a new single-season record for shutouts (8). Silos also established a single-season record for points, since the program was re-established in 1998, scoring her eighth and ninth goals of the season. She can become just the fourth 49er to tally double digits in a season with her next one, all which came in the mid-1980's. The 49ers got on the board in the 32nd minute when Sahar Haghdan (Palmdale) brought it up the near side, passed it to Hayley Bolt (Lakewood), who crossed it to the far side for Silos, who scored from 15 yards out. For Bolt, it was her fourth game-winning assist of the season, to go along with four game-winning goals. Silos scored again in the 56th minute, taking a long pass from defender Hilary Goldberg (Woodbridge), dribble in and scoring from 20 yards out to make it 2-0. Dana Farquhar (Redlands) had a chance to put the 49ers on the board in the 26th and 30th minute, but one of four saves by Vandal goalie Lindsay Smith stopped one, before the second shot sailed high. LBSU outshot the Vandals 18-to-9 for the contest and are next in action when they host UC Davis on Friday at 3 p.m. and return to Big West play on Sunday at UC Irvine at 1 p.m. |
