Reynolds Impressive in Debut RENO, NV-- Long Beach State's Jill Reynolds, a freshman from Valencia, lept to the fourth-best pole vault in school-history at the National Indoor Pole Vault on Saturday afternoon, winning her section and leaping to a height of 11'8". Reynolds' personal-best fell an inch sort of Christina Lee's third-best mark, while Reynolds flew past Leslie Smith's height of 11'7.75". Senior Kristin Hambaroff (Bakersfield) also finished in the top-10 with a height of 10'8". "Jill has a very bright future. She has shown a lot of consistency in practice, and that is uncommon for a freshman," said Director of Track and Field Andy Sythe. "Kristin showed a notable improvement and a lot of mental toughness, which should be useful at tougher meets down the road." On the men's side, Cuesta College transfer Ryan Tonneson (San Luis Obisbo) finished second in his sectional with a height of 15'1". "Ryan looked good, I am very pleased by his performance," said Sythe. "He posted some great heights and showed a lot of potential today." The 49er track team will host its first ever benefit for the team Sunday night at Spagettini's Restaurant in Long Beach, featuring former 49er great and Olympian Dwight Stones. |
