49er Trio in Top-Four After First Day of Heptathlon IRVINE, CA--Ami Goldhammer, Nina Grubbs, and Jamie Cuthbert-Allen ended day one of the Big West Conference heptathlon competition in second, third, and fourth after a solid day of competition. Goldhammer ran a lifetime-best of 14.81 in the 100m hurdles, and finished the day with 2,848 points. She also threw 38'07.75" in the shot put, cleared 4'08.25" in the high jump, and ran 26.08 in the 200m. Grubbs picked up a season-best 40'02.75" in the shot put, cleared 5'01" in the high jump, ran 15.25 in the 100m hurdles and 28.20 in the 200m to end the day with 2,780 points. Cuthbert-Allen ended the day with 2,726 points after running 15.43 in the hurdles, 27.05 in the 200m, throwing 28'09.25" in the shot, and jumping a seasonal-best 5'04.50" in the high jump. Defending Big West heptathlete champion Ann Marie Turpin, from UC Irvine, pulled up with a hamstring injury in the 200m and is most likely out for the rest of the meet, leaving the title up for grabs for the remaining athletes. Day two of the heptathlon competition will conclude tomorrow with the javelin, long jump, and 800m. The team competition will begin on Friday, May 14.
