Tigers Win Wild One 67-63 in Overtime STOCKTON, CA--The University of the Pacific (10-10, 9-2 Big West) survived a wild 67-63 overtime win over visiting Long Beach State women's basektball (9-11, 5-6 Big West) as the 49ers could not complete a 14-point turnaround in the second half. Petra Gläser led The Beach with a season-high 21 points on 9-of-18 shooting, while Candice Wilson added 16 points. LBSU shot just 41% from the field, including 1-of-7 in overtime. Gillian d'Hondt's turnaround jumper gave UOP a 66-63 lead with 36 seconds left in overtime to seal the win, as the 49ers could not convert on their final possession after that. Andrea Nederostek scored 21 points and added 15 rebounds on 9-of-16 shooting, while d'Hondty added 17 points and 10 rebounds off the bench. The Tigers shot 42% for the game as the team's only make in five attempts in overtime was d'Hondt's. In a wild final minute of regulation, the 49ers made just half of its four free throws, forcing overtime at 59-59. Crystal McCutcheon had a chance to end it in regulation, making the first free throw before missing the second with 0.5 seconds left, after being fouled by Jessie Menkens on a driving layup attempt. LBSU closed to 59-57 with 1:19 left on a Gläser jumper, before UOP would miss two jumpers with under a minute and two free throws with 20 seconds left. Lauren Bull made one of two free throws with 21 seconds, which closed the deficit to 59-58, as LBSU was forced to foul Nancy Dinges, a 77% free throw shooter. Dinges would miss both free throws, giving the 49ers the ball with 20 seconds left.
LBSU had to play without two of its top four scorers for a majority of the second half, as both Wilson and Connors left the game at the 12 minute mark with four fouls a piece. Connors eventually fouled out at 4:06, returning two minutes prior. Wilson came back with five minutes left in regulation and played all five minutes of overtime. The 49ers twice closed the Tiger deficit to a couple of baskets, prior to the fouls, thanks to 8-2 and 7-0 runs. Wilson's driving layup brought LBSU to within 31-27 with 17:35 as the 49ers opened up the half on an 8-2 run. UOP then went up 38-28 on a three-pointer from Wong at 14:02, before the 49ers fought back, again, at 38-33, this time on a layup from by Connors at 12:10. UOP led 29-19 at the break, shooting 46% in the first half, compared to the 49ers' 33% clip. Wong's driving layup at 8:11 gave UOP a 20-8 lead midway through the first half, before a 9-5 run closed the deficit briefly to 25-17.
