Quartet Sign National Letters of Intent

Four Sign National Letters of Intent LONG BEACH, CA-- Long Beach State women's basketball announced that Karina Figueroa (Corona/Rosary HS), Sheila Ho-Ching (Long Beach/Wilson HS), Amanda Foster (Los Angeles/Marshall HS), and Mary Has (Long Beach/Millikan HS) have signed National Letters of Intent to play for the 49ers starting in 2005-06. Figueroa and Ho-Ching are former All-CIF selections. "I am extremely pleased with the four players we have signed," said second-year Head Coach Mary Hegarty. "They all have the qualities we are looking for bring the program to the next level-- they are all very competitve, extremely hard workers, who love to win. Add to the fact that they are all local, including two from right here in Long Beach, and we're really excited about the direction of the program." At 5-8, Figueroa led all of Orange County with 6.3 assists per game last season to earn first team All-CIF honors for the second time in her career. Figueroa added 7.8 points and 4.0 steals per game, to go along with her 52% clip from the field and a 35% percentage from 3-point range. Figueroa also earned first team All-County accolades and was named All-Serra League for the second time in her career. She was named first team All-CIF in 2001-02. Ho-Ching is the cousin of current 49er guard Jeannie Saunders, and one of two Long Beach players signed. Ho-Ching, a 5-10 guard, earned second team All-CIF accolades in 2002-03 and is a three-time All-Moore League selection. She averaged 10 points and nine rebounds per game last year, leading the team with a 78% clip from the charity stripe. Foster, a 6-0 power forward from Marshall High School, is a two-time League MVP, All-City and All-League selection, who set Marshall High records for career rebounds, points in a season and rebounds in a game (28). She was named honorable mention prep All-American by adidas this past summer. Has, a 5-8 point guard from Millikan High, was named All-Moore League for the second time in her career last season after averaging 13 points, five assists and six rebounds per game.
