| Former Assistant Stokes Passes Away Stokes was the Associate Head Coach at LBSU From 1996-2001
AMERICUS, GA-- Former Long Beach State women's basketball Associate Head Coach Rosa Stokes, the current Head Coach at Georgia Southwestern, passed away early Thursday morning after battling heart problems. Stokes, 38, was on a donor's list for a heart transplant.
Stokes compiled a 26-35 record in two seasons, getting her first opportunity at a head coaching position after serving under former Head Coach Dallas Bolla from 1996-2001. Her tenure with the 49ers included the team's first post-season berth since 1991-92, a WNIT appearance in 1999-2000.
Stokes previously served on the coaching staffs at UT-Chattanooga (1994-96), Tennessee Tech (1990-92), Louisville (1989-90) and Murray State (1988-89). Stokes played collegiately at Cumberland University in Lebanon, TN and was a native of Tennessee.
The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Aug. 11, at the Alexandria First Baptist Church in Alexandria, Tenn., according to the GSW Athletic Department.
