Nygaard Signs on with Sparks of the WNBA
49er Assistant's Pro Career Still Going

LONG BEACH, CA-- Her career is not over yet. Long Beach State assistant coach Vanessa Nygaard signed a seven-day contract with the WNBA's Los Angeles Sparks, the team announced on July 25.

Nygaard, who has played for WNBA teams in New York, Cleveland, Portland, Miami and Charlotte, was signed to provide depth at forward. The 6-1 forward is expected to vie for time at forward as numerous injuries, including to All-Star Lisa Leslie, have depleted the Sparks' bench.

A 1998 fourth-round draft choice 39th overall by the New York Liberty, Nygaard missed her first season with an ACL injury.

Nygaard played collegiately in Palo Alto and holds the Cardinal career record for 3- pointers (210) and was a Pac-10 first-team selection as a senior. Nygaard will resume her coaching duties at The Beach after her summer tour is completed.
