| Sampson, Loebl Lead Beach at Big West Duo Wins Throws Events, Five Named All-Big West May 16, 2003
NORTHRIDGE, CA-- Stephanie Sampson and Cory Loebl won their respective throw events on the third day of the Big West Championships in leading five Long Beach State athletes in earning all-conference honors. Also finishing amongst the Big West's best on Friday were Jennifer Yadon (steeple chase), Terrance Wroblewski (10,000-meter) and Frank Rodriguez (javelin). Sampson won the hammer throw with a toss of 177'03", while Cory Loebl won the discus with a toss of 183'09", 11'04" in front of the second place finisher. For Loebl and Sampson it was their first career Big West Conference titles, and second all-conference honors, both in last year's championships in the hammer and discus, respectively. Already an all-conference cross country runner in the fall, Yadon earned all-Big West honors in the spring by finishing second in the steeple chase with a time of 10:37.18. Last year, Yadon was named a Junior USATF All-American in the steeple chase. For Wroblewski, who finished third with a time of 31:14.52 in the 10,000-meter run, it was his first conference honor. Rodriguez earned his second-straight all-Big West honor in the javelin, finishing third this year with a toss of 202'2". The Big West Championships finishes up on Saturday. DAY THREE RESULTS |
