| BEACH HEAD TO UCLA INVITATIONAL
49er Track and Field Travel to Westwood This Weekend
LONG BEACH, CA-- The track and field team will travel to UCLA this Saturday to compete at the UCLA Track and Field Invitational at Drake Stadium. This is the first time in several years that The Beach has competed at UCLA. The hammer throw will take place at 8:00 am to kick off the meet, and running events will begin at 10:00 am. With less then three weeks remaining until the conference championships, the team will use this meet to garner more conference and regional qualifiers, as well as compete against some of the best athletes in track and field today. Two 49ers have achieved top-25 national rankings in the country: Cory Loebl (Portland, OR) and Stephanie Sampson (Yorba Linda, CA). Loebl ranks 19th in the discus (187'01") and 21st in the hammer (202'07"), while Sampson ranks 21st in the hammer (190'01"). Eight athletes have qualified for the NCAA Regionals. They include Cory Loebl (Shot Put, Discus, Hammer), Steve Holland (Hammer), Frank Rodriguez (Javelin), Adrian Ruark (Pole Vault), Gladys Iwuaba (Triple Jump), Christina Lee (Pole Vault), Stephanie Sampson (Discus, Hammer), and Jennifer Yadon (3000m Steeplechase). Several 49ers currently rank in the top-five in conference. They include:
