| TAYLOR, UCSB TOO MUCH FOR BEACH SANTA BARBARA, CA – Led by Lindsay Taylor's 30 points, the No. 19 ranked UC Santa Barbara Gauchos defeated the Long Beach State women's basketball team, 70-48 at the Thunderdome, Saturday night. Long Beach State drops to 8-10 (5-2 Big West), while the Gauchos improved to 15-3 (8-1 Big West). Taylor, who also added seven boards, two blocks, was a perfect 11-for-11 from the charity stripe. Teammates Kristen Mann (15 points, 11 rebounds) and Lisa Willett (10 points, three assists) highlighted the top Gaucho scoring. Glory Johnson led Long Beach State with a team-high 12 points and eight rebounds in the losing effort. Candice Wilson and Jennifer Baker 11 points each. The Gauchos opened the contest on a 26-5 run at the 6:10 mark in the first half. UCSB used Taylor's size advantage down low to create several foul shots. UCSB went to the line 19 times in the first half, connecting on 14, compared to LBSU's 4-for-8 performance from the line. LB State could only muster 16 percent shooting from the field (15-of-51) in the first half as well. UCSB never let the 49ers back into the game in the second half, opening up a 26-point lead at 51-25 at the 12:37 mark. Long Beach State got no closer than 17 at 55-38 with 9:22 left in the game. LBSU shot 29 percent for the game, and committed 26 turnovers. The 49ers resume action at Cal State Fullerton, Feb. 6 at 7:00 p.m. Box Score
