49ers Impressive in Exhibition

Gläser Impressive in Exhibition Opener LONG BEACH, CA--The Long Beach State women's basketball team opened up exhibition play Saturday night with an exclamation point, winning 92-69 over the Play Mode All-Stars, keyed by Petra Gläser's (Amtsberg, Germany) 32 points. The German National Team member went 13 for 21, adding eight rebounds. Jayme Conners (Las Vegas, NV) recorded an impressive night with eight points, 12 rebounds and seven assists before leaving the game with a laceration above her right eye while going for a rebound late in the second half. Candice Wilson (Sacramento) added 17 points, five rebounds, and five steals, while Crystal McCutcheon (Lancaster) notched 13 points and five rebounds. The 49ers shot 50% for the game committing just 23 turnovers. They outrebounded Play Mode 49 to 36. Nicky McCrimmon (formerly of USC) led the Play Mode All-Stars with 27 points. The team shot 42% from the field. Gläser scored the first eight points for the 49ers over the first three and a half minutes en route to 17 first half points. The Beach dominated the first half leading 50-36, shooting 52% from the field. Conners added six first half assists, while McCutcheon had 11 first half points. Long Beach State will next be in action on Saturday, November 15th in an exhibition game against Love and Baskeball at 3:00 pm in The Pyramid. The 49ers open up the 2003 season November 21 at New Mexico State.
