49ers Swept at Coors Invite

49ers Swept in Fort Collins FORT COLLINS, CO-- Long Beach State (1-3) were swept at the Coors Rocky Mountain Invitational, falling in the consolation game to Alabama (2-1) 84-66. Jayme Connors (Las Vegas) led the 49ers with 17 points, while Petra Gläser (Amtsberg, Germany) added 13 points. Lauren Bull (Rockford, IL) hit three, three-pointers for 12 points. Navonda Moore led Alabama with 15 points, while Monique Bivins hit for 14 points. The Tide shot 51% from the field, hitting seven three-pointers. The 49ers made a bit of a run as a Bull three brought the score to within 75-61 with 4:38 left, but The Beach could not get past a 40% clip from the field. The Crimson Tide extended to as many as 25 points in the first half, before settling at 50-28. Alabama hit six of seven three-pointers in the first half as nine Tide players scored in the first half. The Tide shot 54%, while The Beach hit 42% from the field, committing 11 turnovers. Alabama took a 34-14 lead on a Sipe three with 8:33 left. A three-point play by Merriweather made it 29-12 with 9:41 left, after starting the game on a 21-8 run. The 49ers play a couple of West Coast Conference schools next week, hosting Loyola Marymount on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m., before playing at San Diego on Saturday at 2 p.m. |
