Long Beach State Defeats Love & Basketball 74-64 LONG BEACH, CA--The Long Beach State women's basketball team defeated Love and Basketball in exhibition play 74-64 Saturday afternoon in The Pyramid. Five Long Beach players put up double digits en route to the victory. The Beach shot 47% for the game and committed 19 turnovers. Petra Gläser put up 12 points and grabbed five rebounds, while Christina Mack and Jennifer Baker each added 14 to the score. McCutcheon led the team with 17 points. McCutcheon and Baker led the team with eight rebounds a piece. Jayme Connors was the fifth player in double digits with 11 points. L & B brought the score to within four points, 43-39, before Long Beach went on an 11-0 run to stretch their lead to 54-39 with 13 minutes remaining. Love and Basketball battled back to within 59-55, with 5:26 left to play on two free throws by Natalie Nakase. Long Beach used an 8-0 run to lead 67-55 with 3:37 remaining after two made free throws by Crystal McCutcheon and came away with the win. Love and Basketball was led by Marie Philman's 16 points and seven rebounds. Michelle Greco put up 13 points, while Denise Woods added 10. Greco had averaged 26.3 points per game prior to this exhibition. L & B shot 36% for the game and committed 18 turnovers. The Beach led by 17 points, 30-13, with 8:25 remaining in the half before L & B went on a 20-9 run to bring the score to 39-33 at the break. Long Beach State shot 52% from the field, while Love and Basketball shot just 37% for the half. The women's basketball team will travel to New Mexico State on November 21 to kick off the regular season. They will return Sunday, November 23 for their home opener against Eastern Washington at 2:00 pm in The Pyramid. |
