Wright Is School's All-Time Hit Leader May 2, 2002 SAN LUIS OBISPO, CA-- The No. 26-ranked Dirtbags (27-16, 8-5 Big West) dropped their fourth straight Big West contest, falling to host Cal Poly (25-23-1, 10-6 Big West) 5-4 on Friday evening. The Beach went up 3-0 in the first scoring two off a two-run double from Paul McAnulty followed by Wright's RBI single, his 246th career hit, passsing Chuck Lopez (1997-2001) for first place on the all-time hit list. Wright finished the night 2-for-4. Cal Poly chipped away at the deficit, scoring single runs in the third, fourth, fifth and sixth to lead 4-3. The Mustangs capitalized on two separate errors from Nick Covarrubias to score two unearned runs. The Beach hitters struggled as well, leaving five runners in scoring position.The Dirtbags finally pushed a run across in the eighth to tie it at 4-4. Brad Davis singled before moving to third on a wild pitch from Aaron Moser, before scoring on Mike Hofius sacrifice fly to center. After Jason Barringer led off the eighth with a single off of reliever Carlos Muniz (1-1), he moved to second on a sacifice bunt, to third on a wild pitch by Chris Demaria. Barringer then scored when Aaron Escobedo's blooped a single over a drawn in infield to give Cal Poly a 5-4 lead. Muniz gave up two runs (one earned) over 2.1 innings, striking out a season-best four. Jeremy Reed extended his hit streak to 13 games by going 2-for-5. Sunday's starter, Kevin Correia (9-3), pitched the final 1.2 innings striking out the final two Dirtbag hitters to pick up the win. Already with a depleted bench, 3B Tim Hutting took a hard shot single off the neck in the second inning and was forced to leave the game due to dizzyness.
