| Racking Up the Miles 49er Athletes Headed to Fayetteville After Traveling to New York City March 6, 2002
LONG BEACH, CA-- It's time to rack up a few more frequent flyer miles for Long Beach State track and field athletes Jon O'Neil (Fountain Valley) and Connie Jerz (Tucson, AZ). Each will head to Fayetteville, AR for the NCAA Indoor Championships on Friday after competing at the U.S. Track and Field Senior Championships in New York City last Friday.
O'Neil already holds the school-record in the indoor shot put with a toss of 60'11.50", setting it at the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Championships two weeks ago. The toss, which was fifth-best at the event, was listed by USATF as the ninth-best collegiate toss in the country. The senior is coming off a 10th place finish (59'0.25") at the USATF Championships in New York City.
Jerz, just a sophomore, has already broken the school-record in the indoor pole vault three times, and carries a height of 13'3.50" into this week's NCAA Championships. Jerz set the indoor school-record at the MPSF Championships in her home state of Arizona, and is currently listed with the 13th best pole vault of any collegian in the country. Jerz finished fifth at the USATF Championships with a height of 12'11.75". Jerz holds LBSU's outdoor record as well. |
