Jerz Breaks Her Own Record Again
Sophomore Vaults to 12'11.50"; Bates Nearly Breaks Another February 9, 2002
Jerz Breaks Her Own School-Record Sophomore Vaults 12'11.50" in Home State FLAGSTAFF, AZ-- Sophomore Connie Jerz (Tucson, AZ) broke her own school-record in the pole vault, while freshman Matt Bates (Los Gatos, CA) came within 00.17 seconds of breaking the 800-meter record at Northern Arizona's Indoor Mountain T's Invitational on Saturday. Jerz, had originally set the school-record in mid-January with a vault of 12'9.5", flew to a height of 12'11.50", the second-best height of any collegian at the NAU event. The Tucson native finished sixth overall in front of her home state. Bates won the 800m race with a time of 1:51.57 just missing assistant coach Larry Henderson's time of 1:51.40 set in 2000. Other top performances included Meghan Atkinson winning the 400m B Race (57.50), Emily Forsythe (5'4.25") and Shaun Anderson (6'5") each finishing third in the high jump and Jon O'Neil finishing second in the weight throw (64'10.75"). 49ER WOMEN'S TOP-5 FINISHES (unless noted) 400m B Race
