Orlandos/Jennings Homer; Eisentrager/Alliston/Jamison Shut Door February 23, 2002 LONG BEACH, CA- The No. 21-ranked 49ers (6-2) picked up their second straight victory over the University of Arkansas (4-3), defeating the Razorbacks 4-0 at Blair Field on Saturday afternoon. In a combined effort, Todd Jennings and Nick Orlandos each hit solo homers, while Daniel Eisentrager (3-0) remained undefeated with 6.1 strong innings. It was the third shutout of the year for the 49ers. Eisentrager pitched the 6.1 shutout innings, giving up six hits while walking one and striking out three. Eisentrager tossed just 84 pitches. Josh Alliston followed with 1.2 innings, while Niel Jamison closed out the ninth. Taking the loss for Arkansas was Charlie Isaacson, who lasted 7.0 innings, giving up two runs on three hits. Arkansas did outhit LBSU 7-to-6 as Clay Goodwin had three hits. The Beach got on the board in the first with a solo homer from Todd Jennings, and added a run in the fifth off an RBI single from Jeremy Reed to lead 2-0. The Dirtbags added two runs in eighth to lead 4-0. Nick Orlandos, who moved to the bottom of the order after batting in the second spot for much of the year, launched a solo shot to left center to begin the eighth inning to give LBSU a 3-0 lead. Nick Covarrubias added a two-out RBI single to give LBSU a four-run advantage. Eisentrager cruised through the first six innings, as just one runner reached second base. In the seventh, with The Beach up 2-0, Eisentrager put two runners on with one out before being relieved by Alliston. The senior right hander then who forced two fly balls to center to end the inning. Alliston then put runners on the corners with two outs in the eighth getting a called strike three on Michael Conner to end the inning. The final game of the three-game series will be played on Sunday at an earlier than scheduled 11 a.m. start.
