Scioscia Keynote Speaker at Leadoff Diner AL Manager of the Year to Kick Off Dirtbag Season LONG BEACH, CA-- American League Manager of the Year and World Series Champion Skipper Mike Scioscia will be the keynote speaker at the Long Beach State Dirtbags' Leadoff Dinner on January 22 at the Hyatt Regency.
Scioscia, the former Dodger catcher, led the Anaheim Angels to their first ever World Series title in 2002, leading the Angels to a club-record 99-63 mark. Scioscia became the 28th Major Leaguer to win a title as both a player and a manager. Scioscia carries a 253-230 (.527) record in three seasons with the Angels.
This will be the 11th Leadoff Dinner kicking off the Long Beach State baseball season, which has featured past keynote speakers: Dave Snow, Tommy Lasorda, Sparky Anderson, Tony Muser, Bill Russell, Bert Blyleven, and Terry Collins.
