| 49ers Win Convincingly Against New Mexico State Beach Knock Down Nine Three-Pointers in Victory Over Aggies
November 25, 2002 LONG BEACH, CA --Long Beach State womens basketball (1-1) won their first game of the season defeating the New Mexico State Aggies (1-1), 78-67, at The Pyramid Monday night. Long Beach State will next be in action on Wednesday, November 27 when they travel to Eastern Washington for a game 7 p.m. That game will be a homecoming for Washington native Denise Hagen (Kenmore). They will return to The Pyramid Sunday, December 1, as they take on national powerhouse Florida in a regionally televised game at 1 p.m.
Candice Wilson recorded a career-high 14 points in the game and added three rebounds and nine assists. Glory Johnson scored 19 points and led the team with seven rebounds. Princess Moore led the Aggies with a career-high 31 points and added five rebounds and two assists. Sinnamon Garrett added 14 points and eight rebounds, while Nicole Black led the team with nine rebounds.
The Beach shot 47% for the game, including nine three-pointers, the second-most tres in a game in LBSU history. NMSU shot 41%.
New Mexico State rallied to within five points,54-49, off of a lay-up by Princess Moore with 10:55 left in the game, but Long Beach proved to be too much. This was the closest the Aggies came as the 49ers led 44-27 at the half.
Long Beach State started off strong opening up the game on a 13-2 run. New Mexico State closed to within four points, 15-11, off a jumper from Princess Moore before Long Beach pulled away for a 44-27 halftime lead. Their largest lead of the half stretched to 18 points, 44-26, off a three-pointer from Lauren Bull with 49 seconds left in the half. Bull did not return to the game after being knocked down by a screen play at the end of the first half due to a sore neck.
New Mexico State shot just 38% from the field in the first half, while Long Beach shot 56% in the first half. The Beach had seven three-pointers in the first half aiding in their runaway halftime score. BOXSCORE |
