In Fall 2008, Long Beach State finished the on-campus Rhodes Tennis Center. The 12 courts complex is named for Long Beach State tennis player and alum Terry Rhodes in appreciation for his $1.25 million gift/endowment to the women's tennis program.

Home to the nationally ranked Beach Women's Tennis program, the tennis center also hosts daily kinesiology/physical education courses, student intramural tennis, as well as, the Long Beach Open junior tournament each March and the Southern California Special Olympics each June.

Unique to the Rhodes Tennis Center is the placement of the spectator grandstands and concourse inside of the courts rather than outside them. This design creates four feature courts rather than the traditional two end court design. Fans are never more than 60 feet from any of the six college match courts.

The Hendricks' Family Scoreboard electronically displays the score on the six collegiate matches using wireless controls from each court. Donated by the family of former LBSU women's tennis coach Gloria Hendricks', the 19-foot high scoreboard is located on the north end of the spectator concourse above the tennis building and is visible throughout the spectator concourse.
