Nicole Vargas returns to Long Beach State in 2012 as the volunteer assistant coach for the 49ers.
A four-year starter at setter for Long Beach State, Vargas has a wealth of playing experience to draw upon in her coaching career. Taking over as the starter for Long Beach State as a true freshman in 2005, Vargas led the 49ers to four straight NCAA Tournament appearances and to the second round as a sophomore, junior, and senior. A two-time first-team All-Big West selection, Vargas finished her career with the fourth-most assists in school history, 4,695, trailing just Sheri Sanders, Misty May-Treanor, and Sabrina Hernandez in the career lists.
Graduating in 2009, Vargas then spent two years with the USA national team, and then played professionally with Nantes in France. Vargas coached lasted season with Golden West in club volleyball, leading the U16 program, and has also worked in instructional camps for over five years. She is the daughter of long-time LBSU assistant coach Debbie Green.
