Alyssa Waite enters her fourth season as the head coach of Long Beach State Women’s Golf after being named the ninth head coach of the program in July 2021. Transforming the program immediately, Long Beach State made their fifth NCAA Regional appearance as a team and returned to the postseason for the second straight year after Jasmine Leovao was selected as an individual in 2023.

Catching the attention of her peers with immediate success, Waite is now the back-to-back Big West Coach of the Year, having won the award in both 2023 and 2024. In 2024, Long Beach State set a program record by winning three team championships in the same year, winning the Golf Iconic Classic, and The Clash at Boulder Creek before closing the regular season with a dominant win at the Big West Championship from Spanish Trail Country Club in Las Vegas.

Long Beach State won the conference championship by 23 strokes and Jasmine Leovao repeated as the individual medalist, while freshman Andee Avery and Janae Leovao finished the tournament tied for third place. As a team, the program had five top three finishes in nine tournaments entering the postseason and saw five members of the team earn All-Big West Honors, including a second straight Big West Freshman of the Year honoree in Andee Avery.

Waited earned her first Coach of the Year honors in 2023. With Freshman of the Year Jasmine Leovao and her twin sister Janae joining returning senior Hannah Ko, the trio all earned All-Big West honors as Long Beach State finished with nine Top 5 finishes and six Top 3 finishes as a team throughout the year. The Beach set a school record with a low round of 279 at The Clash at Boulder Creek, and Jasmine Leovao advanced to the NCAA postseason after claiming the individual title at the 2023 Big West Championship.

In her first season as head coach, Waite guided a young program with no seniors to a fourth-place finish in the Big West Championship, while sophomore Hannah Ko earned All-Big West honors after finishing in the Top 10.

Her success has also drawn eyes internationally, as Waite was been selected to serve as the Team USA Head Coach at the 2024 Toyota World Cup in Japan. The Toyota World Cup features 20 teams representing their countries from around the world, with eight girl’s teams made up of three of their country’s best junior golfers competing, including the USA.

The position is the first head coaching position for Waite, who has a wealth of experience as an assistant coach on the West Coast, spending three years at San Diego State after a stint on the coaching staff at Portland State.

Waite spent three seasons at San Diego State, where she played a critical role in recruitment, logistics and day-to-day coaching with the Aztecs. In her first season with San Diego State the Aztecs won the Mountain West Championship before finishing as the runners-up last season, and in both years SDSU reached the NCAA Regionals, earning an at-large selection in 2021.

The roster at San Diego State featured a mix of International players as well as California locals, a purposeful strategy that Waite helped realize with a mix of recruiting around the world along with utilizing local talent.

Prior to moving to San Diego, Waite served as a Volunteer Assistant Coach with her Alma Mater, Portland State, while also working as a golf pro at Fairbanks Ranch Country Club. A team captain with the Vikings, Waite also claimed a conference championship during her time at Portland State.
