Erika Dillard assumes the helm of the Long Beach State Sand Volleyball program as the Head Coach, starting in 2014.
Dillard has one previous year of coaching experience at the NCAA level, joining the staff last season as an assistant coach, helping lead Long Beach State to a 20-3 overall record and the 2013 AVCA National Championship over Pepperdine in Gulf Shores, Ala.
Also serving as the lead assistant coach for the women's indoor volleyball program, Dillard recently completed her fifth season with the 49ers. Dillard is responsible for training the team[apos]s middle blockers and defense, and handles all administrative duties while serving as the team's assistant recruiter. While at Long Beach State, Dillard has coached six All-Americans, including two-time Honorable Mention middle blocker Chisom Okpala. Dillard nee Chidester spent five years at Long Beach State as an athlete, playing middle blocker. As a freshman reserve in 2001, she reached the championship match with the 49ers.
In 2002, she led the team with a .380 hitting percentage and earned All-Big West honors. A second All-Big West nod followed in her junior season, when she led Long Beach State in kills with 487 and received an All-Region Honorable Mention. After a medical redshirt in 2004, she closed out her career in 2005 with another outstanding year, posting 312 kills and once again earning All-Big West and All-Region honors. Following her playing career, Dillard spent two years as a graduate assistant at the University of La Verne, making two NCAA appearances and reaching the championship game in 2008, posting an overall record of 54-10 during her time there. Dillard has also worked as an assistant at Lakewood High School and has coached at the club level with Cal Juniors, and is in her ninth season coaching with Goldenwest Volleyball Club.
She earned her Master's degree in business administration from La Verne in 2010, and married Jason Dillard in 2014.
