Amir Lugo-Rodriguez returns to Long Beach State prior to the 2026 season, joining the Beach as an assistant coach.
Lugo-Rodriguez was an outstanding player for Long Beach State who has gone on to a tremendous coaching career. A First Team All-American as a senior in 2017, Lugo-Rodriguez helped lead Long Beach State to a 27-4 overall record and an MPSF championship, reaching the NCAA Final Four and setting the foundation for back-to-back championships the next two seasons for the program.
After pursuing a professional career in France, Lugo-Rodriguez got his start in coaching with the Men’s Volleyball program, working on staff during the team’s NCAA Championship run in 2018 before joining the women’s volleyball staff at Cal in his first full-time position.
As an assistant at Cal, the Golden Bears reached the AVCA Top 25 in 2019 and had their best record since the 2011 season. Lugo-Rodriguez then spent two seasons at Northwestern as an Assistant Coach with the women’s volleyball program before joining the UCLA Women’s Volleyball coaching staff in 2023.
Over the last two seasons, Lugo-Rodriguez was promoted to Associate Head Coach of the program, helping guide All-Americans in Cheridyn Leverette and Ana Dodson.
At the club level, Lugo-Rodriguez is the Assistant Director of SC Rockstar Volleyball club and has served as a club coach since 2013 in the SCVA, NCVA and Great Lakes regions.
