David Roberts returns for his second season as the undergraduate assistant coach for the Dirtbags in 2012.
Roberts was a key member of the Long Beach State bullpen in 2007 and 2008, helping the Dirtbags host back-to-back NCAA Regionals. After transferring from Washington State following one season with the Cougars, Roberts posted a 2.92 ERA with a 4-1 record as a sophomore over 37.0 innings, making 34 strikeouts. The next season, Roberts posted a 3-1 record with a 3.58 ERA and one save, walking just five batters while striking out 26 and helping the Dirtbags reach a ranking as high as No. 4 in the nation.
Drafted in the fourth round by the Cleveland Indians in the 2008 MLB Draft, Roberts reported to short season for the rest of 2008, and spent three more seasons in the minor leagues before returning as a coach for Long Beach State.
In addition to assisting with the pitching staff, Roberts will work on completing his degree in communications while at Long Beach State.
