Beach Drop Overtime Contest Against No. 4 Fordham

Long Beach State pushes No. 4 Fordham to overtime.
LONG BEACH, Calif. – No. 6 Long Beach State battled hard all afternoon at the Ken Lindgren Aquatics Center, forcing extra time against No. 4 Fordham before ultimately falling 14-10.
Fordham (10-1) struck first, but Long Beach State (9-4) goalkeeper William Whitstone quickly anchored the Beach defense with three-consecutive saves before Gabi Acosta leveled the game on a power play. After the Rams briefly regained the lead, back-to-back tallies from Artur Diaz and Acosta propelled the Beach to a 3-2 advantage.
The Rams answered with an equalizer with just one second remaining in the opening period, followed by two quick goals in the second to pull ahead 5-3. Acosta then secured his fifth hat trick of the year before Marc Frigola found the back of the cage to tie the game 5-all midway through the second quarter. The Rams responded with another 6-on-5 goal and the Beach couldn't convert a penalty attempt or a power play opportunity before the end of the period.
Fordham and Long Beach State traded goals throughout the third as Corbin Stanley, Olivér Sudár, Federico Gulisano and Zalán Nagy all scored to keep the Beach within one with eight minutes to play, 10-9.
Following a save by Whitstone on a Fordham power play, Gulisano netted his second goal of the contest on a 6-on-5 to tie the game 10-all with 3:24 left in regulation. The teams remained scoreless through the rest of the period as neither team could find the go-ahead goal and the game headed to overtime.
The Rams took an 11-10 lead after the first overtime period as the Beach came up empty on their two attempts in the stanza. Fordham added another goal with 1:32 left in the second overtime period, and Long Beach State couldn't connect in the final frame as the Rams went on to defeat the Beach 14-10.
