Wojciech Gajek Named AVCA National Player Of The Week

Freshman earns honor after leading No. 3 Long Beach State past No. 2 Hawai‘i for conference championship and MVP honors
LONG BEACH, Calif. -- Following a dominant performance in leading No. 3 Long Beach State to the conference championship, freshman opposite Wojciech Gajek has been named the AVCA National Player of the Week.
Gajek powered Long Beach State to a 2-0 week, highlighted by a championship-clinching 3-2 win over No. 2 Hawai'i. He was named the tournament's Most Valuable Player after delivering one of the most impactful two-match stretches of his season.
Across the championship weekend, Gajek totaled 37 kills on a .484 hitting percentage while averaging 4.63 kills per set. He added six service aces, eight total blocks, and 47.0 points, averaging 5.88 points per set.
He opened the week with 10 kills on .471 hitting in a sweep of UC Irvine, then elevated his play in the title match against Hawai'i with 27 kills on .489 hitting in the five-set victory. His 27 kills and .489 hitting percentage both marked match highs and were the top individual performances of the tournament.
Gajek's efficiency and terminal attacking were critical in Long Beach State's comeback win over Hawai'i, where the Beach hit .321 as a team in the five-set match and secured the title with a 15-11 fifth-set win.
With the honor, Gajek becomes one of the nation's top recognized performers heading into the AVCA National Collegiate Men's Volleyball Championship, leading Long Beach State as it continues its championship run.
