Long Beach State Earns 88-73 Win Over UC Riverside

The Beach had five players in double figures in a strong offensive night.

LONG BEACH, Calif. – Beach Basketball had five in double figures, led by Petar Majstorovic with 22 and freshman Leopold Levillain, who recorded his second straight double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds in an 88-73 win Thursday in the LBS Financial Credit Union Pyramid.
 
The game was tight early, with UC Riverside (6-12, 1-5 Big West) and Long Beach State (7-11, 3-3 Big West) trading leads through the first ten minutes.
 
Tied at 19-19 with just under nine minutes to play, the Beach caught fire, with Gavin Sykes making the first of nine straight makes for Long Beach State, turning that tie into a 14-point lead at 40-26 on the way to a 12-point halftime edge.
 
Carrying that momentum, Long Beach State pushed the lead to 17 points at 57-40 on a triple from Sykes. UC Riverside made one charge to cut the lead to 11, but the Beach withstood that challenge and responded by extending their lead to 23 points on the way to closing out the victory.
 
Majstorovic led the way with 22 points and 5 rebounds, while Levillain again had a double-double while leading the team in rebounding. Sykes put up 16 points with 6 rebounds. Rob Diaz III finished with 6 assists with no turnovers facilitating the offense, and the Beach got a boost off the bench with 13 points from Shaquil Bender and 10 points from Isaiah Lewis.
 
Long Beach State is back in action Saturday, taking on CSUN on the road from Northridge at 5 p.m. on ESPN+.
